STOP PRESS! - Creative Writing Tasks For Geographers

This program simulates the Editor’s desk of  a busy national newspaper. It is the students’ task to complete an article by the time the paper goes to press.  News stories and updates arrive thick and fast.   These updates will change the students’ perception of the issue and must be incorporated into the article by the time the deadline is reached.

This program provides the outline of 12  different geographically orientated news stories.  Each story addresses major issues in GCSE and A Level Syllabuses.  In addition to developing students’ extended writing skills, it teaches them to handle a large volume of information in a limited period of time.

The program requires minimal teacher input, although it is easy to edit the content of the stories and  control the timing of the updates, etc., through a simple menu.   Teachers can also create their own outline stories.
